The Southern Hungarian city of Szeged played host to a regional public meeting between SSIO members and the local community – introducing them to the life, teachings and mission of Sathya Sai – alongside devotional singing and selfless service activities to make for an informative and uplifting weekend.

30 participants consisting mainly of SSIO volunteers as well as newcomers came together on the weekend of 16th and 17th September 2017, to not only expand their knowledge but also sing together in the musical traditions of different faiths, as well as serve together.

The public meeting on Day 1, also included an overview of Sathya Sai’s teachings on environmental care, supported by a video presentation.

Day 2 included two selfless service projects. The first led by the local volunteers, involved a large-scale clean-up of a local social & community kitchen run by a Franciscan monastery, with which the Sai Centre of Szeged has had a long-standing relationship in preparing meals for the homeless. Through the efforts of the SSIO volunteers the kitchen and dining area was revived from the marks of heavy and frequent use and was restored to its original pristine condition.

The second group mainly consisting of children and their parents, rehearsed a special theatre play based on the teachings of Sathya Sai and the values found in nature and will be performing later this year at the national meeting of the SSIO of Hungary.
